Plus Size Summer fashion
I love the fact that being fat doesn’t mean I can’t buy clothes any more. OK, being tall can sometimes make clothes buying a tad tricky, but most clothes designers have woken up to the fact that
There are lots of us fatties about and
2. We have to wear clothes.
I remember when there was tonnes of patronising advice all over magazines and online telling big girls what NOT to wear; these days it feels as if the designers are falling over themselves to tell us that we CAN wear their clothes.
Are you into jumpsuits? I love the look and some plus size bloggers and models carry the jumpsuit off perfectly and make me want to rush out and invest ion one right now, but the only thing that stops me is their total impracticality mixed up with the fact that my need to go to the loo always seems to increase in direct relation to the difficulty of getting out of what I’m wearing in an enclosed space. Public toilets, anyone? Not a good look.
Still, if you want to get in this particular fashion trend, go for it, there’s plenty of choice in plus sizes. A wide legged, flowing style jumpsuit looks darn fabulous on a fuller figure and you can dress them up or down…me being me I think I’d go for dressing it up with chunky accessories, a belt and some sexy heels but you can go as casual as you like.
Culottes refuse to go away and although I’m not remotely tempted to recreate 1985 with a pair of trousers that look like a skirt (tell me, what is the point of that?) if you love the look, get on out there and work it. Again, I’ve seen loads of plus size culottes this year so you’re spoiled for choice. Model Candice Huffine suggests that if you’re a lover of the culotte, you should always size up so that you get the movement in the fabric – if they are too tight they look odd as they cling to your thighs and flare out at the bottom. Culottes are definitely best matched with heels, too.
It’s another retro shout to the eighties but really easy to wear; the shirt dress is back and it’s looking good. Ignore the ‘wear dark colours’ advice from yester year and go for a white one with a sexy belt to show off your curves and you can nail the look just like that.
I love the bright colours that are around at the moment – have you seen the gorgeous FatPhrocks summer maxis too? A few of them are reduced at the moment and I’m SO treating myself this week, as it’s pay day! If you’re not tall enough for a FatPhrocks frock (try saying that after a few Proseccos) don’t fret as the shops are full of patterns and colours this season, which makes me smile.
