Why Kelly Clarkson Rocks – and Katie Hopkins doesn’t.
March 23, 2015
I haven’t had a baby, but I know from some of my mates that it’s not easy on your body.
If you’re someone in the spotlight, like Kelly Clarkson, the media spotlight is already shining on you before you get pregnant, and nasty little scandal rags like the Daily mail are going to be pointing their accusing fingers at you as soon as you start to ‘fill out a bit’. You’re either too fat or not showing enough as soon as the three month scan is out of the way, and the scrutiny doesn’t stop once you’ve given birth.
If, like Kelly, you’ve been bitched at before and called out on your weight, the media-fest is going to be compounded. It sucks, doesn’t it? Doesn’t matter how freaking awesome your music is, or that you’ve just grown a baby inside your body, you are a BAD PERSON and a terrible role model if you happen to be fat any more than a week after childbirth.
Kelly is quite clearly having a wonderful life at the moment. She’s got an adorable daughter, a lovely husband, and is touring her latest album, which she recorded mostly while she was pregnant and emotional, so it’s likely to be a good one! She appeared on the Graham Norton show recently, sang Heartbeat Song, and she came over as so happy. Lovely, bubbly and warm hearted. Not to mention really pretty.
Unfortunately, there was a troll on the prowl; Katie Hopkins just happened to be watching the TV at the time and took to her favourite method of disseminating bitchiness straight away to make a comment about Kelly’s size, following it up with a vicious barb about baby-weight and muffin tops.
I do wonder about Hopkins’ mental health. A happy person doesn’t need to be nasty.
Thankfully, Kelly is in a happy place and it would take more than a mean-spirited jibe from a complete nobody like Katie Hopkins to upset her. When she was interviewed by Heat Magazine, who told her about the comments self-appointed fat-phobic Queen Troll had made, she looked bemused and replied, “Who is she?”
Then she added, “I've just never cared what people think. It's more if I'm happy and I'm confident and feeling good, that's always been my thing," she said. "And more so now, since having a family — I don't seek out any other acceptance."
She finished off with "You need to be happy with who you are and, whoever that is, let your little light shine."
The perfect response to someone who is so obsessed with other people’s weight that she gained a load and lost it again for a TV show, just to prove it could be done.
Back to the drawing board with your bitchery, Hopkins, Kelly’s lovely and she doesn’t care!
